May 2nd, 2016

A cool miracle I got to see this week was when I was on exchange with Elder Fairwell from Texas. We were walking down a road and saw an old lady walking towards us so we stopped, said hi, and told her we were missionaries for Jesus Christ. She instantly started crying. We asked her what was wrong and she said through sniffles "God would put you in my path. I'm a believer too. I'm a recovering alcoholic and I was just on my way to the shop to buy a bottle." She then explained how she had some recent tragedies occur and she couldn't handle life any more. She said she was going to the shop to get some alcohol and be alone. She then asked us what we thought about suicide.

Me and Elder Fairwell were able to testify of Jesus Christ and His atonement. We talked to her for 10 minutes or so and she said she was past saving and helping. She cried a lot and we were able to teach her with the Spirit. The Spirit was powerful the whole time. Eventually we stopped talking and let her on her way after trying different ways to get her to come back to her house or to talk with in the park. She ended up still walking towards the shop, but I know that we were where the Lord needed us to be and we did what He wanted us to do. I don't know the result of what happened to this lady but it was a huge testament to me that God loves everyone and that day I was able to be the way that He told someone He loves them. I felt His love for her so strongly and His love for me. I'm grateful to be able to see God's hand.

I've felt so much growth on my mission so far and I have been getting very sensitive to the spirit. During my morning personal studies I end up crying like half the days because some scripture or some talk touches me in a profound way. I am coming to know who my Savior is on a personal level. As Nephi says "I glory in my Jesus who hath redeemed my soul from Hell."
I feel like Christ is my personal Savior. I love him.

Thanks for everything you do for me! I love you! You're always in my prayers!

Love, Elder Johnson
